Finding Gratitude in the Middle of the Storm
Scripture: Psalm 46:1-2
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea."
Life has a way of reminding us that we aren't always in control of the weather. Some seasons bring sunshine, open doors, answered prayers, and moments when everything seems to fall into place. Other seasons bring unexpected storms. The kind that shake our confidence, test our patience, stretch our faith, and leave us wondering when things will finally settle down.
And sometimes, the hardest part isn't even the storm itself. It's trying to keep showing up, loving people, caring for our families, doing our work, and finding joy when our hearts are carrying things nobody else can see.
But here's something I want us to remember: Gratitude isn't reserved for the seasons when life is good.
We don't have to pretend everything is okay to be thankful. We don't have to minimize our struggles, ignore our disappointments, or put on a happy face when we're hurting. Gratitude simply shifts our attention from everything that is going wrong to the things God is always doing right.
The storm may be real, but so is God's presence.
We can be grateful for the friend who checked in, the strength to get out of bed, the meal around the table, the breath in our lungs, the lesson learned through a difficult season, and the promise that we never walk through any of it alone.
Sometimes gratitude doesn't change our circumstances immediately, but it changes the posture of our hearts as we walk through them.
Remember, strong women aren't women who never experience storms. They're women who learn where to anchor themselves when the winds start blowing.
So this week, don't wait for the storm to pass before you find something to be thankful for. Look for the little blessings right in the middle of it. God is still working, still providing, still carrying you, and still worthy of your praise.
You can acknowledge the storm without allowing it to steal your gratitude.
A Little Reflection for This Week
Take a few minutes to consider:
What storm am I currently navigating that has been consuming more of my attention than it deserves?
What are three things I can genuinely thank God for right now, even in the middle of this season?
How can I intentionally shift my focus from what I cannot control to what I can be grateful for?
This Week's Challenge
Every morning this week, before reaching for your phone, take two minutes to identify three things you're grateful for.
At least one of those things must be something you might normally take for granted.
Train your heart to recognize the blessings that are already there.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being our refuge and strength when life feels overwhelming. When the storms come, help us remember that You are never absent. Give us eyes to see Your blessings even in difficult seasons and hearts that choose gratitude over fear, faith over worry, and hope over discouragement. Remind us that we don't have to have everything figured out to trust You. Help us become women who stand firmly rooted in Your promises, regardless of the weather around us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
A question for our Strong Women community:
What is one thing you're choosing to be grateful for this week, even if life isn't going exactly as planned?
Let's encourage one another. Sometimes sharing our little reminders of gratitude can be exactly what another woman needs to get through her storm. ❤️
